      My current cable, now too short after I rearranged my setup, has 18 pins, i.e., 6 pins are omitted from the middle. I assume any extra pins on the new cable will just go unused, and that's OK, correct?

      The extra pins are for transmission of added data for higher pixel displays. Providing your current adapter card is not blocking the location where the extra pins are located - your new cable will work just fine. The extra pins allow for added data but are not required. Nearly every monitor and PC are backwards compatable. I have used the cables with extra pins with PC cards that only used the lower quality output - no issue.

      Hi Dan. We recommend that you replace your 18-pin DVI cable with another 18-pin DVi cable to ensure compatibility. You may want to check out the Belkin F2E7272.
